The objective of our project is rather simple: to plant one million trees in one summer and promote social and environmental responsibility.

The first tenet of our project is to get one million trees into the ground. We are planting seeds, seedlings and trees with schools, organizations and communities of the 56 towns in which we will be stopping. We have acquired our supply from distributive wholesalers, private and state nurseries and organization that have planted local species and donated the new trees to us. We currently have a seed stock of seven tree species, offered free of charge from Planting America.

It should be noted that we know popping a seed into the ground doesn't necessarily equal a tree. But we are seeking volunteers along the trail to allow us to plant on their property, or refer us to available land so they can render care to the young tree. We are also very concerned with planting indigenous species so working with local and state nurseries across the country is critical for achieving ecological harmony.

As important as planting one million trees is for the environment, speaking with schools and providing engaging demonstrations and discussions provides children with some tools and outlets to be active in their community at any age. We discuss why trees are important while removing ourselves from the stale lectures to which many students have grown accustomed. Students often get to plant trees themselves on school grounds and go home with seeds to nurture themselves. Caring for a newly planted tree or seed allows children a responsibility that we think spurs a positive environmental awareness.

While speaking with children offers a positive example, our project attempts to show that you do not need to change your life to be active in your world. We are just two guys with a cause and some initiative. We encourage our peers to find an effort about which they feel passionately and do anything to promote change. It’s easy.
